Participants are to make Mamata didi laugh otherwise will put in the jail
Star Plus approached West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to judge the new series of Laughter Challenge on the channel. This will be a historic event for the channel and the TRP ratings are expected to strengthen channel's leading position. Show will be aired on the channel in June.
Star Plus officials confirmed the news and said it would be difficult for the participants to make Mamata didi laugh which will raise the levels and quality of the competition too high.
"Jokes would be focused on Mamata didi and they should make didi laugh otherwise the participant will be arrested on the spot. If participant irritates her by his weird comic timing, he would have to face at least 6 months jail," said Uday Shankar CEO of STAR India, promoter group of Star Plus.
He denied the rumors that Mamata Banerjee does not understand jokes.
"Mamata didi has a good comic timing, which she demonstrated in pulling UPA's legs and arresting idiot professors," said Uday Shankar.
Talking about quality and vision of program, Shankar told India Satire correspondent "Our Laughter Challenge quality deteriorated sharply after appointing Navjot Singh Sidhu who laughs without having the minimum required level of comic timing in the joke, making us feel idiotic. Initially, we thought using Sidhu's laugh as background laughter. However, the background noise gradually deteriorated the quality of the series. Now we are serious and plan to raise the standards."
Mamata Banerjee's office confirmed the news and said that it would be a great idea that she will be judging the show.
"At least people would avoid laugh and smile. We are also planning to issue a circular in Bengal that besides didi in exceptional cases, we shall not allow anybody in West Bengal to smile and laugh, forget about cartoons. This show will be a message to people in India that laughter unlimited is unacceptable," said Mamata Banerjee's personal assistant P K Chatterjee, in a serious note.
